PEVELY, MO - Saturday Night's Pennzoil World of Outlaws
event was a memorable one for Blake Feese. On a tough heavy race track,
Feese stood tall and finished a WOO career-best eighth.
"It really felt good to be competitive after the year we had in
2001," said Feese. "We had a front wing break and that hurt
us during the second half of the feature. If that wouldn't have broke,
who knows for sure how well we could have done."
Feese qualified an impressive ninth in the 44-car field on the high-banked
3/8-mile oval just south of St. Louis. He made some people turn their
heads in the first heat race as he chased down leader Randy Hannagan.
He made a bold move inside of Hannagan and claimed the win. In the 30-lap
feature, he started sixth and was running fifth during the first ten
laps and was actually closing on fourth place runner Danny Lasoski.
The heavy track took it's toll on cars and a broken front wing mount
made driving the car difficult, but Feese held on to score the eighth
place run.
"It's tough running on those kinds of tracks, but I had a great
time," said Feese. "Like I said, I really wish the front wing
wouldn't have broken just so I could have stayed on the gas like I was
early in the race. I just enjoy having a chance to race with these guys,
so they can see what I'm capable of."
Feese spent April 1st in Anderson, IN, testing his USAC sprint car.
Feese was scheduled to make his debut at Eldora Speedway, but mother
nature forced the race to postponed.
